Antarctic Zhongshan Station

The Antarctic Zhongshan Station (69°22'24"S, 76°22'40"E) is China’s second perennial scientific research station in Antarctica completed on February 26, 1989. It is located on the Larsemann Hills of east Antarctica. The extreme maximum temperature in summer there is 9.8℃, the extreme minimum temperature in winter is -45.7℃, and the annual average temperature is -9.9℃.

The station mainly carries out scientific observation and research such as meteorological observation, polar high-altitude atmospheric physics, ice and snow and atmosphere, ocean, geology, geochemistry, geography and environment monitoring. The Zhongshan Station can accommodate 120 people for summer and 25 people for winter every year.

 

In 2005, the Zhongshan Station was listed as one of the National Field Observation and Research Stations and was named as "Antarctic Zhongshan National Field Observation and Research Station for Snow and Ice, Space Special Environment and Disasters".
