Antarctic Qinling Station
The Antarctic Qinling Station, China's fifth research station in Antarctica, commenced operations on February 7, 2024, located on Inexpressible Island in Terra Nova Bay of the southernmost continent. This station covers an area of 5,244 square meters and features an external design inspired by the Southern Cross constellation, a tribute to Zheng He, the legendary Ming Dynasty admiral. It can accommodate up to 80 people during the summer and 30 in the winter, hosting scientists, engineers, mechanics, electricians, doctors, and administrative staff year-round.
The station's main research focuses include studying Atmosphere-Ice-Ocean interactions, ice sheet and ice shelf-Ocean interactions, environment and ecosystem monitoring, and space physics studies and the geological environment evaluations. Qinling Station will serve to bolster mankind's knowledge about Antarctica, advance the peaceful and sustainable development of the southernmost continent and act as a platform for joint exploration.
